The painted portrait has always been a very powerful representation of a person. Through the painter’s composition, style and brushstroke the portrait goes beyond the mere likeness of the sitter. It is able to show their emotion, identity, ego, energy and presence. It becomes a true depiction of the person as a whole.
My goal as an artist is to capture that on canvas. I am searching for basic human emotions that I can then present to my viewer. I want them to feel the sitter’s entire presence.
